Golden Sedge (Carex aurea) is a small sedge, reaching heights of 10-20 cm. It grows well with full or partial sun, and prefers moist or wet sandy soil in meadows, swamps, shorelines, and ditches. The names golden sedge and pumpkin sedge come from their perigynia, or seed coats, which are a vibrant yellow-orange colour at maturity in July and August.
