Wild Basil (Clinopodium vulgare) is a small upland forest plant.  It is drought tolerant and will grow in both full sun and shade, making it versatile in a garden setting. It grows a spherical cluster of magenta flowers, of which only a few bloom at any time. It can propagate through rhizomes and will form small colonies. This plant should not be confused with culinary basil (Ocimum basilicum).
