Flat-topped white aster prefers moist soil. It is a cheerful, white aster with 3/4 inch flowers in a distinctive flat-headed arrangement. The asters are an important group of native plants. They are larval host plants and pollinator plants for butterflies and other insects.⁣

🦋 Host plant for Harris’s Checkerspot (Chlosyne harissii), Pearl Crescent (Phyciodes tharos), Northern Crescent (Phyciodes cocyta) and Tawny Crescent (Phyciodes batesii) butterflies.⁣
