Canada Wild Rye (Elymus canadensis) is a short-lived, drought-tolerant perennial grass. It reaches a height of around 1.5 m and is topped with a long bristly seedhead. The seeds are an important food source for grassland birds and the foliage is used by small animals as a place to hide and for nesting materials. Canada Wild Rye is a great species for ecological restoration projects due to its ability to establish quickly and reduce erosion.
