Hairy Beardtongue (Penstemon hirsutus) is a small perennial wildflower. The stems of this plant are covered in small hairs, giving them the appearance of a white outline. Hairy Beardtongue tolerates harsh rocky or sandy soil in either full or partial sun. It is the larval host plant for the Baltimore Checkerspot (Euphydryas phaeton) and an important nectar source for bumble bees (genus Bombus).
