Red Elderberry flowers and sets fruit much earlier than Common Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis).   Red Elderberry is not particularly edible for humans, but is a favorite source of food for birds and other wildlife.

For germination instructions see the Seed Treatments page.  Red Elderberry seeds require one 3 month period of warm stratification followed by 3 months of cold stratification.
