Red Elderberry (Sambucus racemosa) is a large deciduous shrub. It grows in full sun or partial shade with wet to average soil moisture. In early spring it has many small white flower clusters that are visited by hummingbirds and insects for nectar. In mid-summer the flowers become red berries which are an important food source for birds such as cardinals, grosbeaks, buntings, waxwings and orioles.
